Many festival purists are skeptical of the big acts at Jazz Fest, but Elton John proved to be a an exemplary exception, in the eyes (and ears) of everyone we spoke with. We grew up listening to Benny and the Jets and marveling at the crazy piano player in the gigantic glasses and outlandish costumes and he brought all that and more to Jazz Fest, to play before the largest crowd we’ve ever seen in New Orleans. One song in the photo pit and a bone crushing journey to and from the stage, and worth every second. Only the prospect of being banned permanently (and being branded as rednecks, to be perfectly honest) kept us from climbing the speaker towers and screaming F*** YEAH! One of the best Jazz Fest shows ever!
