We caught up with Mayhem Fest in Atlanta and had a blast–neither of us had seen Butcher Babies or Rob Zombie live and both were visually spectacular. Butcher Babies were a pretty easy shoot, very expressive and fantastic light, but if you’re thinking about bringing your iPhone to a Rob Zombie concert, well, no. One of the most challenging lighting situations we’ve ever encountered, but also one of the best shows ever. Rob Zombie owned Mayhem Fest–just what we expected. New album: must buy, for Teenage Nosferatu Pussy alone. We already did. Another favorite was Machine Head, who rocked the Barge to Hell with us in 2012, tho with a different bassist. Motionless in White also had a fantastic set (we previously caught them at Vans Warped Tour, last year). Mastodon was awesome, though we don’t dig the new Brent Hinds haircut–his shaggy goodness was on full display when we last saw them at Voodoo Fest, and we’ll take the shag! We also caught Battlecross, Scorpion Child, Amon Amarth (complete with giant on-stage viking ship!), Children of Bodom, Job for a Cowboy, and Attika 7. Check out the pics below. We can’t wait for next year!
