George Clinton (of Funkadelic / Parliament fame, not the 4th Vice President of the United States, who was almost certainly not as interesting) has been laying down the funk for a long time. Some musicians who’ve been playing this long, and who’ve had as much success as George Clinton has, show up, smile, drop a 90 minute set, and slam the door on the tour bus. Our 45 minute experience with Cameo a few years ago comes to mind, but that story’s for another time. We doubt Clinton would know how to deliver a show like that–in fact, we’ve never outlasted him at a show, no matter how hard we’ve tried. No exception this time, either, and we caught the second show in a two show series (one of the backstage guys made it home at 4am the night before, when Clinton finally stopped playing). George Clinton’s amazing 15+ piece band wore our asses out, with one of the best concerts we’ve seen in years. You may think you won’t drop to all fours and bark when Atomic Dog comes on, or split the seams in your jeans trying to duplicate some 70s funk move to Flashlight, but well, you might be wrong.
