Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue @ Lafayette Square

YLC Presents:  Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue!

Trombone Shorty has come a long way, as if that needs saying.  We remember him as a tiny kid, blowing trombone like he was seven feet tall, but now he’s not only grown up, but has played with Lenny Kravitz, U2, Green Day, and others.  His current band is the funky Orleans Avenue, featuring a stage destroying array of talent, including Mike Ballard on bass, Dan Oestreicher on baritone sax, Tim McFatter on tenor sax, Pete Murano on guitar, Joey Peebles on drums, and Dwayne “Big D” Williams on percussion.  YLC was kind enough to let us shoot the show stage-side at Lafayette Square.  Check out the pictures and support the band by catching them live and filling that tip jar (no singles please–give like you mean it.)

The Young Leadership Council is a non-profit that recruits young professionals to New Orleans–they’re responsible for a number of projects in the city, including lighting the Crescent City Connection and the “Proud to Call it Home” campaign that resulted in a now ubiquitous bumpersticker that loudly proclaims our love for New Orleans.   One crowd favorite YLC project is the annual Wednesday at the Square concert series (in Lafayette Square, near downtown),  sponsored by, among others,  the New Orleans Saints, SDT, Abita, Luzianne, Fidelity Homestead, and WWOZ.  The concert series lasts for 12 weeks and is free.  Check it out.

Next week: Kermit Ruffins and COOT!
